Smart metering
This service entry describes how gas, water and heat levels of companies or households can be monitored remotely by using the LoRaWAN communication network.
Smart metering describes the ability to monitor e.g. gas, heat and water levels and optimize the energy consumption by giving customers actionable insights to improve energy efficiency. While utility meters have existed for years, sensors are what make them “smart” meters, enabling better meter management and data capture, analysis and transmission to the Cloud. Prevalent use cases include:
- Electricity metering
- Gas metering
- Utility metering, monitoring and management
- Water metering
- Water flow and leakage monitoring
Sensors on the market offer low power and long battery life. By using LoRaWAN networks the data can be exchanged for long ranges and send directly to the energy supplier.
The benefit for the user is the avoidance of regular utility meters checks. The energy companies on the other side are saving travelling times and employees and can track the data centrally and remotely.

The smart meter is collecting the gas, water or heat data. This sensor data than flows over the LoRaWAN communication network to the central data storage of the service provider. The data will be than provided via web service and can be viewed on the end device.
