Smart pest traps
This service describes the implementation of condition monitoring of the traps status and toxin amount for rats and mouse traps.
Traps and poisons are still used for pest control today. However, there are requirements for traps and poisons which needs to be monitored regularly. This service is designed to detect a mouse or a rat caught by a trap in its bait station remotely.
The sensor detects the status of the mouse and rat trap and monitors the temperature and movement of the trap 24/7. The sensor connects directly to a LoRaWAN gateway providing connectivity up to 8-10 km distance. The capture of a mouse or a rat from a trap actions triggers a signal which goes over the LoRaWAN network to the database of the service provider. The service employee can receive text and email notifications when the status of the trap has changed.
The advantage for the service personnel of companies or municipalities is that they can monitor the status of the traps centrally and remotely and do not need to check the status of each trap individually. This makes the operation more efficiently. Moreover it is possible to use the data to find anomalies and places with a high amount of active rats.

The sensor “listens” and collects data at the roadside, for example. This sensor data then flows via the LoRaWAN communication network to the service provider’s central data store. The data is then made available via web service and can be viewed on the end device. The data can ultimately be visualized or processed depending on the application.
