The water velocity sensors can provide information on whether the flow velocity corresponds to the expected velocity and thus detect contamination, leaks and blockages.

A classic reading of the water meter is no longer necessary here either, as LoRaWAN provides the data in real time. This allows water pipes to be inspected cost-effectively and in real time.

The aim is to drastically reduce water wastage or to detect irregularities at an early stage. This application can be used both in the public sector by municipal utilities and in industry.

The city of Lyon in France, for example, has been able to identify and repair 1,200 water leaks by using such a system. This resulted in an 8 percent increase in the efficiency of the local water network.

The velocity sensor collects data from the corresponding measuring points placed on the pipes. This sensor data than flows over the LoRaWAN communication network to the central data storage of the service provider. The data will be than provided via web service and can be viewed on the end device. Warning can be created as an email, text message or push notification on your smartphone.
